This week I had the pleasure to have a little sneak peak in the new restaurant Mozaic, where there use to be La Riva, now, there's a whole new concept of fine dining.

In the stately building where La Riva used to be located, MOZAIC will open its doors on November 22nd. Mozaic found its name in the impressive terrazzo floor that adorns the entire ground floor of the building and will be open to the public for two days a week.

The striking, eclectic brick construction at Londenstraat 52 was built in 1908 as a soup kitchen for port workers. After several redevelopments, the building was given a catering function in 2000 under the name La Riva. Now, almost 20 years later, the location was completely overhauled again. The tailor-made marble bar and velvet sofas and chairs are the most striking witnesses of this, but the music installation also received a complete make-over. This was necessary in order for the building to properly fulfill its new function as an event location. Although it is also convenient on the two days that MOZAIC is open to the public, because after a three-course menu on Thursday and Friday night the restaurant becomes a soft club. The music may be a little louder and there may and may be danced.

Fine dining & dancing

The idea for MOZAIC came from the mind of Bart Claessens; owner of the catering and private dining company Silverspoon and his partner Vincent De Wit. As forties, they noticed that there are not really many things left in Antwerp where they can still go to hang out after a delicious dinner or to throw their legs. They now want to fill this gap with MOZAIC. The renewed interior with rich materials in subdued tones makes the building speak for itself and is the perfect setting for this renewed combination of fine dining and relaxation.

Yves Mattagne

Before dinner, MOZAIC goes into the sea every other month with a different chef, who will present a new menu every other week. The first two months (November until mid-January 2019) will be given to Yves Mattagne of Seagrill in Brussels. Then it is David Martin from La Paix, who was recently named Chief of the Year by Gault & Millau.

Work will be done with set menus, the main dishes will be available in a meat, fish or veggie version. As a starter tapas du monde will be offered that can be shared by the whole group. Finally, a dessert completes the three-course menu that is offered at 85 euro pp (excluding drinks).
